"Star Teacher" National Education Award - 2006

All these Projects and innovating approach to teaching awarded me a National Education Award called "Star Teacher".

We certainly enjoyed doing Flat Stanley Project!

It's a wonderful project, joining together students and families from all over the world!
My student Romina V. even received a letter and a postcard from the Office of Prince William! She was so excited!
This Flat Huasito visited Finland!

Flat Peñiley visited Scotland.
This Flat Chilote visited New York City!

On the other hand... our chilean Flat people visited many different countries and brought home amazing stories!

This flat Stanley visited Luxor in Egypt.

During the exchange, students kept in touch with the visitor's family, e-mailing each other pictures and information about the wonderful adventures they were having. After a certain period of time, Flat visitors went back home with their travel journal, a photo CD, leaflets and souvenirs!
My students were thrilled when their Flat people came back to Chile bringing so many interesting things!
Flat Lucy from England visited active Llaima volcano and saw Araucaria trees.
Flat Carrie from the USA visited Pucon international resort.
Flat Cook from Indonesia flew over our region.

We showed our visitors the best of our region.

Flat Stanley from Canada visited Queule fishing village.

Stanley Lambchop is a normal, healthy boy until he gets squashed by a bulletin board. He sees this as a great opportunity to get inside an envelope and mail himself to different places. Being "flat" he goes on lots of really exciting adventures.

*********

Every student joining this project created a Flat Person and sent it overseas where another student was waiting for him as a real visitor.
We also received our foreign "Flat visitors" and showed them the best of our area!

Flat Stanley Project

Based on Jeff Brown's book "Flat Stanley".

Students learn much faster by doing than just by memorizing lists of words... especially if they are having fun!

These are 10 year-old students learning about Food.

Learning by doing!

This is a class from Finland showing the postcards they received from Chile.

We practiced English language exchanging written postcards, promoted our country and received the most beautiful postcards from different parts of the world!

Sightseeing USA!

The "Postcards Collectors Club" began with the interest of many students in getting to "see" different places and actually "collect" them. We joined some international postcards trading Yahoo Groups and sorted out postcards exchanges with teachers from different countries and their students. We exchanged postcards with students from Finland, Turkey, USA, Poland, Denmark and others and we represented our country in the "Postcards of the World" project leaded by Doctor Kim Yang from Taiwan.

Postcards Collectors Club - A window to the world!

Pen Pals in four continents!

Our cute friends from Australia.

Our Pen Pals from Romania.

We exchanged letters with students from different states in the USA, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Spain, Australia, Canada, Greece, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Belarus, Japan and England.

We used the most beautiful chilean stamps on our envelopes

Every letter, a surprise!

In our letters we taught each other about our country and culture. We wrote about our school, food, weather, our city, traditions, etc.
We learned so much from our Pen Pals!
But we not only exchanged letters... we also exchanged stickers, coins, small calendars, book markers, CD with traditional music, photos, postcards and other little presents.
This made the project more fun!

Look what my friend sent me!

Students get so excited when they receive letters from their Pen Pals!

Pen Pals Project

One of the most motivating activities when learning English or any other foreign language is getting in touch with students from different countries. Not just English native speakers but also students who work hard to learn a second language as well.
That is why we started a Pen Pals project with students from many different countries (America, Europe and Africa) and exchanged letters with them, sharing our culture and learning from them.
